Pernem :
It is the headquarters of Pernem , the northern most Taluka of Goa. The predominantly Hindu Taluka became a part of Goa in 1788 when Portuguese conquered it.
It is one of the least explored regions of Goa and has a few interesting places in and around Pernem town.
It serves as market town for the adjoining areas. Saint Josephs Church is located on a hill in the center of town.
Shri Bhagawati temple is a 500 year old temple of goddess Bhagawati. It just north of the Saint Josephs church. It has imposing statue of goddess Bhagawati. The Dussehra festival is celebrated here with fanfare.
Getting There
Pernem is located on NH17 and it easily accessible from bus from Mapusa. Pernem has railway station on the Konkan Railway line.

Deshprabhu house
This 19th century mansion is located on the outskids of the town and is the grandest mansion of the state. It was the home of a wealthy landlord and a freedom fighter. His escendants still resides in the huge mansion.
The extremely beautiful house with its pink exteriors blend gracefully with green surroundings. There are about 16 courtyards and 14 other wings besides a beautiful temple dedicated to lord Shiva. With in its periphery is also a museum and massive garden. The goa tourism arranges tours to this excellent place.
