Our Lady of Miracles Church, Mapusa :

This graceful church is located at the end of the market road at Mapusa.

It is dedicated to Our Lady of Miracles and is adored by the Christians as well as Hindus.

The church was originally built by Portuguese in 1594, and was subsequently rebuilt in 1719, and 1838.

It houses the image of nossa Senhora de Milarges, over the main altar and hence is locally known as Milarges Church.

According to some legends, Nossa Senhora de Milarges, popularly known as milarges Saibinn, was the sister of Hindu Goddess Lairayee at nearby Shirgao, whose Jatra is celebrated in May.

During the Jatra, fire walkers come to the village of Shirgao and walk on the fire to prove their piety to the Goddess Lairayee. This Hindu festival is also attended by thousands of Chirstian devotees.
