Mapusa :
Mapusa the headquarters of Bardez taluka, is the most important town of north Goa, It lies 13kms south of Panaji and
is the third largest city of Goa and is an important urban centre.
The nearest to this town are the Anjuna and Chapora and the famous Calangute / baga beach is just 13 kms away.
Mapusa in Konkani language means map or measure and indicates that it was a "place of measure" where goods were sold.
The town sprawls at the base of a hill, Altinho, to the east of river Mapusa, which is a branch of river Mandovi.
Mapusa is well known for The Bogdeshwar temple and Our Lady of Miracles Church.
It is famous for its Friday market, which is worth visiting.
Mapusa is the main marketing place for the hotels in and around Calangute. The Tivim Railway Station is few kilometers away.
