Mary Immaculate Conception Church, Panjim :

       This imposing church is located at the main square or the Church square in the heart of the town. It is a main place of worship for people in the city.

Originally, it was built in 1540, but was rebuilt from the foundation in 1619. It is modeled on the church of Reis Magos and has tall twin towers in Portuguese baroque style. The main altar is dedicated to 'nossa Senhora da Imaculada Conceicao' and is built in Renaissance style.

The arch of the main altar is flanked by the marble status of Saint Peter and Paul. There are also side altars which are dedicated to Crucified Jesus, was later added in 19th century.

The church bell is the second largest in Goa, after the Golden Bell in the Se Cathedral. It was recovered from the ruins of the Church of St. Augustine at Old Goa. The church is also an important tourist attraction of Panaji.

The Church should be visited at night, because If you place a candle over here you will notice that colors of the night and the candle emerge and discharge a beautiful kaleidoscope of white, yellow and orange.

The humungous view guarantees that anyone passing by will be instantly attracted towards this Church.

As soon as evening sets in, this church is lit up with electric bulbs which transforms this huge monument into a glowing beauty.

The Church bell is 2nd largest in Goa.
