Bhagwan Mahaveer wildlife Sanctuary :

       The sanctuary set in the foot hills of picturesque Western Ghats is located along the northeast border of Goa at Molem village. It is the largest sanctuary in the state and is spread across 240 sq.km. of evergreen forest dotted with clearing of grasslands and occasional tribal village.

Animals like The Indian Bison, sambar, spotted deer, slender loris, jungle cats, leopards, monkeys, Malayan giant squirrels, wild dogs, pythons and cobras and Birds such as drongos, minivets, cuckoos, woodpeckers and barbets are inhabited here.

During summer the park is occasionally visited by elephants and tigers, who wander in from neighboring state of Karnataka.

The sanctuary area is also dotted with many important geological and historical features. The main park gate is about 3 km. East from Molem along the National Highway 4A.

It is better to have your personal vehicle as all the sites are several kilometers away from the main road. Motorbikes are good option to travel through the countryside as they are manageable on rough tracks, but not during the monsoon time.

The forest Department jeeps are available within the sanctuary.

The Department of Tourism has built comfortable cottages and dormitories at the park for the tourists. Bookings for accommodation should be made in advance at:

       Opp. Air India Office, and beside Hotel Fidalgo,
       Panjim.

Getting There
It can be reached by buses plying from Panjim or Margao. If you wish to travel by train, Volem (about 6 km,) is the nearest railhead for Molem.
